From Bengaluru · Karnataka
Overnight sleeper buses arrive early morning. Shreekumar Travels runs the most services and VRL also operates.
The Yesvantpur–Karwar Express (16515) has glass-roof Vistadome coaches. It leaves Yesvantpur at 7 am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, crosses the Western Ghats by day and reaches Honavar at about 8:30 pm.
About 8.5 hours via Shivamogga, Sagar and Jog Falls, down the Sharavathi River valley.
Fly to Mangaluru or Goa and drive the last 3.5 hours, if you're short of time.

Several daily Konkan Railway trains from Mumbai stop at Honavar (HNA). The overnight journey takes about 13 to 15 hours.
Mumbai–Goa flights take about 1 hour 15 minutes, then 3.5 hours by road.

A few long-distance trains from Pune run down the Konkan Railway. Otherwise, take a Konkan train from Panvel.
Overnight sleeper buses run from Pune towards the Karnataka coast.

IndiGo flies Hyderabad to Goa and IndiGo and Air India Express fly Hyderabad to Mangaluru. From either airport it is about 3.5 hours by road.
Overnight sleeper buses, including VRL, run from Hyderabad to Honavar.
About 12 to 13 hours via Hubballi, then through the Ghats via Sirsi and Kumta.

IndiGo has direct flights from Chennai to both Mangaluru and Goa. Drive the last 3.5 hours.

Train and flight timings change often. Check IRCTC, the NTES app or your airline before you book. Buses usually reach Honavar early in the morning and most stays check in around 2 pm.
Scenic route
The Yesvantpur–Karwar Express (16515) carries Vistadome coaches, with glass roofs and wide windows. It leaves Bengaluru's Yesvantpur station at 7 am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. By late morning it drops through the Western Ghats between Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya Road, the most scenic stretch, with tunnels, bridges, waterfalls in the monsoon and misty forest all year.
After Mangaluru the train runs north along the coast on the Konkan Railway past Udupi and Murudeshwar. It reaches Honavar (HNA) at about 8:30 pm. Vistadome seats are limited, so book early on IRCTC and check the current timetable before you travel.
Autos and cabs wait at Honavar station, about 5 km north of town. Agree the trip with an auto driver before you set off, as there are no meters. For airport pickups from Goa or Mangaluru, book one of our local cab contacts a day ahead. Getting around town is covered in transport.
