Getting here
Mumbai to Honavar
About 750–770 km down the Konkan coast. The overnight train is the classic way and flying to Goa is the fastest.
By train
Honavar (station code HNA) is on the Konkan Railway and several daily trains from Mumbai stop here. Journeys take about 13 to 15 hours, so an overnight train gets you in by morning. The line runs through tunnels, over river bridges and past the sea. Check current trains and times on IRCTC or the NTES app.
By air
Fly Mumbai to Goa (about 1 hour 15 minutes), then take a cab south for 3.5 hours. See our Goa to Honavar guide, with the animated drive. Mangaluru (IXE) is the other option, about 3.5 hours south of Honavar.
By bus
Overnight sleeper buses run from Mumbai to Honavar, including VRL Travels. They usually arrive early in the morning and most stays check in around 2 pm, so ask about early check-in.
By road
About 14 to 16 hours. Either take the Mumbai–Goa highway (NH66) down the coast, or the faster expressway route via Pune, Kolhapur and Belagavi, then cross the Ghats to the coast. Break the journey in Goa or Kolhapur.
