Getting here

Pune to Honavar

About 600–620 km. Fly to Goa for speed, or make a road trip of it across the Western Ghats.

By air

Pune–Goa flights take about an hour. From Dabolim, Honavar is 3.5 hours down NH66 by cab. See Goa to Honavar.

By road

Take NH48 south to Belagavi or Hubballi, then drop through the Western Ghats via Yellapur and Ankola, or Sirsi and Kumta. It takes about 11 to 12 hours and the forest stretches are lovely by daylight. Avoid the ghat roads at night in the monsoon.

By train

A few long-distance trains from Pune run down the Konkan Railway and stop at Honavar (HNA). Otherwise, take one of the many Konkan trains from Panvel. Check current options on IRCTC.

By bus

Overnight sleeper buses run from Pune towards the Karnataka coast. Check current operators and timings when you book.

When to travel

October to February is the best time to visit, with dry days and calm seas. March to May is the summer beach season. From June to October the monsoon brings roaring waterfalls but heavy rain, so plan to cross the Western Ghats in daylight. Read more on the best time to visit Honavar.
