Best sunset spots in Honavar
Honavar faces west over the Arabian Sea, so almost every beach is a sunset beach. These are the spots locals head to.
On the beach
Kasarkod Eco Beach: a long sweep of clean sand with Basavaraj Durga island on the horizon. Arrive by 4:30 pm.
Tonka Beach: a quiet fishing beach on the sand spit, with boats pulled up on the shore.
Pavinakurve: cross the suspension footbridge for an empty beach north of town.
From the water and the hills
A sunset boat ride on the backwaters ends with the sky turning orange over the Sharavathi River estuary.
Apsarakonda: the hilltop park above the falls looks out over the coast. Further south, the hilltop above Mugali Beach looks down on a hidden cove.
Tips
October to February brings the clearest skies. Carry a torch for the walk back and do not swim after dark.
