Nadi The Flow

Room in a home · Hilltop above the Sharavathi River, Honavar · ★ 4.79/5 Airbnb

Photos: Nadi The Flow, from its public listing.

This is the home of N. R. Nayak and Dr Shanthi Nayak, who spent more than 50 years studying and recording the folklore of Uttara Kannada. Dr Shanthi Nayak received the Daana Chintamani Attimabbe Award in 2016 for her lifetime contribution to Kannada literature. Their daughter Savita hosts guests.

The house is full of local cultural artefacts: painted masks, folk crafts and traditional furniture. Guests say staying here feels like living inside a small museum of the rural culture of the Kanara coast.

You get your own room with a private bathroom in a shared home, with use of the kitchen, the garden and the portico. Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be arranged with a neighbour if you ask in advance.

The house sits on a hilltop above the Sharavathi River, about 1.6 km from the town centre. Walk behind the property at sunrise or sunset for wide views of the river winding through the Western Ghats.
