Every traveller on NH66 crosses the Sharavathi River at Honavar and it's one of the best views on the whole coast highway: wide, calm water on both sides, fishing boats, coconut islands and the hills of the Ghats behind.
An old bridge runs alongside the new one and locals stroll along it in the evenings to watch the sunset, the boats coming home and, if you're lucky, a Konkan train crossing on the rail bridge upstream.
Tips
- Don't stop on the highway bridge itself. Walk the old bridge instead.
