Below the Shri Karikaana Parameshwari Temple on Karikanamma Hilltop, a forest path drops through tall trees to a quiet clearing. Here stands the Ondadike Shri Shambhulingeshwara Temple, a small stone shrine to Shiva with a sloping roof, a Nandi facing the linga and a stream of water that visitors say runs all year.
The walking path starts beside the entrance of the Karikanamma temple. It is about one kilometre each way, mostly downhill on the way in and uphill on the way back. Most visitors pair the two temples in one trip and it is the end point of the Karikan jungle trek.
The forest around the temple is part of the old sacred grove at Karikan. Walk quietly and you may hear hornbills and Malabar whistling thrushes.
Tips
- Wear shoes with grip. The path is steep in places.
- Leeches are common in the wet months.
